About the Artist

Me at the Global Mala Project in Philly!Thank you for visiting bridgetbullen.com. My journey into bookbinding began eighteen years ago while traveling to Italy to study abroad for a semester. I was planning my schedule when I came across a course entitled, "book arts and paper making". This spoke to me on many levels and my adventure turned into two wonderful years falling in love with and experiencing Italian culture, studying book arts and traveling through Europe and oh yes, eating lots of gelato! This evolved into a career that I'm deeply passionate about and have been pursuing ever since.

In addition to creating books that you can see examples of on this site, professionally, I have also done extensive book conservation and restoration, home library care, rare book collection maintenance, designing, printing and binding limited edition books as well as teaching and lecturing.

I continually strive to weave my work with my values in life and feel fortunate that I can blend them together so successfully. There is a natural grace through which my concerns for the environment and humanity flow through my work. As an example, I choose 100% recycled paper, processed without chlorine and with wind energy. Most of my decorative papers are Fair-Trade certified, which means the wonderful paper-makers around the globe I buy from are insured to be paid a fair wage to support their families and give their children an education. My bindery runs on wind energy and all of my paper cut-offs are recycled

When I'm not in my studio teaching, binding or restoring books, I'm very busy raising two wonderful children. I am deeply involved with yoga and its philosophy and love challenging myself in running, swimming and biking. I also love the relationship of cooking pure foods with living and loving life fully. In short, I try to create all my choices with the intention of being a better person and making the world a more harmonious place in which to live.

I invite you to visit my links page for a list of some of my favorite sites that work to support the same ideals I have.

I look forward to creating a book for you soon.
